Dharchula Uttarakhand

Dharchula in Uttarakhand
Dharchula is a lovely but small hill town located in the Pitthoragarh district of the state of Uttrakhand in India. This town name is really meaningful. In the Hindi language, the word ‘Dhar’ mean peak plus the word ‘Chula’ means stove. Thus, it depicts that this hilly town is in the shape of a stove. This town is well surrounded by the hills of the Kumaun region. This town is located on the bank of the Kali river and that also at the Indo-Nepal border. It is situated about 90 km away from the Pitthoragarh district. This place is popular as a pilgrimage for the presence of the Kailash Mansarover in this town.

When it comes to the attractions of this destination, you have so many places to explore. The Narayan Ashram is a wonderful place to see. It is located at an elevation of 2734 meters above sea level. You will get complete peace at this ashram. It was established by Sri Narayan Swami in the year 1936. It remains closed during the winter season because of heavy snowfall. You must also visit the Chirkila Dam to have a nice picnic time. You can also see a spell bound lake beside this dam.

If you are fond of the wildlife then it is better to head to the Askot Sanctuary which is famous for a wide number of species of flora as well as fauna. Tourists can easily see snow leopards, chukors, Bharals, musk deer, black bears, snow cocks and pheasants in this sanctuary. Kailash Mansarovar which is responsible for making Dharchula a famous pilgrimage spot is another destination to visit.  This is a lake that freezes in winter. The traces of the Indus river, the Sutlej River, the Karnali river and the Brahmaputra River can be found in the close vicinity.

The Om Parvat and Adi Kailash are other wonderful places to explore. It is an ancient holy Hindu mountain which is situated in the Himalayan mountain range. The appearance of this mountain is quite similar to Mount Kailash in Tibet. This 'Om Parvat' is present close to the Lipulekh Pass which is in close proximity to the the Nabi Dangh. You will also see the beautiful impression of “AUM” written on it. The food you will get here is delicious. You must taste the food of this town for sure. Cultural viewpoints of this place are amazing.
